Property for Sale in the Golden Triangle

Portugal’s Golden Triangle is a popular tourist destination in the central Algarve region. Located outside of Faro, it includes luxury coastal resorts Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago, along with the town of Almancil to the north, with each settlement making up one of the three points of the Golden Triangle.

Golden Triangle Banner

Each area is home to luxury accommodation, stunning beaches and some of the best golf courses in Europe.

The Golden Triangle makes up a relatively small area 20 minutes from Faro, the main international airport of the Algarve. This makes travelling to any of the resorts in the Golden Triangle very easy, while commuting between each area is also simple.

Property in the Golden Triangle is some of the best in central Algarve. Many of the properties are luxury villas and deluxe villas, while there is also a range of modern apartments available in each town.

Anyone seeking property in the Golden Triangle won’t be short of options.

Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago are two exclusive resort communities with premium property for those seeking a high-quality holiday home or a property to rent to tourists. Property values are high in these areas, but also provide the opportunity for shrewd investments that provide impressive returns.

As the name suggests, the resorts found in the Golden Triangle are of the highest quality.

Quinta do Lago is perhaps the most exclusive resort development in Portugal. It features a range of stunning villas and town houses that are nestled among gorgeous pine trees, giving the resort a real feeling of luxury and exclusivity.

There are various shops and restaurants found within the resort, including Quinta Shopping, which sells designer clothes, jewellery and home furniture. The nearby golf resorts are highly renowned, attracting professionals and amateurs alike.

Vale do Lobo is much the same as Quinta do Logo. An exclusive community resort, it is home to two of Europe’s premier golf courses, a string of designer retailers, a luxury spa and wellness centre and its very own selection of bars, cafés and restaurants.

The resort even has its own private beach, which is a short distance from the gated community. The homes here are very luxurious, being modern developments with top of the line facilities and private swimming pools.

All of the homes are privately owned, although many are rented out to summer tourists that visit the resort.

Almancil is the sole town in the Golden Triangle, located north of Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago. It has wonderful shopping, beautiful beaches and plenty of trendy bars and upscale restaurants. Property is more varied and less exclusive here, with a variety of affordable options available.

Places to Visit in the Golden Triangle

Golden Triangle Places to Visit

There are various places worth visiting within the Golden Triangle. Some of these aren’t found directly in the resorts of Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago, with many located in towns and villages found within the area of the Golden Triangle.

Loulé Castle and Market

Found in the town of Loulé just north the Golden Triangle, Loulé Castle was built sometime between the 13th and 14th century during the Arab rule in the Algarve. It remains in great condition, with three towers and a turret still standing with intact ramparts.

Similarly, the town’s covered market pays homage to the Moorish dynasty, featuring large walls inspired by North African architecture. It’s quite the landmark and still hosts regular markets, which are great place to grab fresh produce when staying in the Golden Triangle.

Faro

The historic city of Faro is very close to the Golden Triangle and there are many landmarks worth visiting in the city. The old town area of the city is home to fortified walls built by Moorish conquerors, with the ancient landmark surviving for over 500 years.

Other notable landmarks include Capela Dos Ossos (the bone chapel), Arco da Vila (a medieval archway) and Faro Cathedral.

Church of São Lourenço

The Church of São Lourenço is found in Almancil and is believed to have been first built in 1684. Consisting of a single nave, lateral chapels and a rectangular presbytery, the interior is fully adorned with azulejo tiles designed by Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes.

Things to Do in the Golden Triangle

Golden Triangle Things to Do

There are countless things to do and see between the three settlements of the Golden Triangle, with each resort having its fair share of activities and attractions.

Golf

Both Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago feature a selection of golf courses, which are widely viewed as some of the best in Portugal.

The Ocean and Royal courses are found in Vale do Lobo, while the San Lorenzo is situated in Quinta do Lago. All three courses feature beautiful greens and offer a stunning view of the Algarve coast, while luxury club houses are the perfect place to cool down after a day golfing in the sun.

If you’re not too fussed about playing on an 18-hole course, there is a mini golf course found in Almancil - a great place for a family-day out!

Tennis

Vale do Lobo features an impressive outdoor tennis facility with 14 full size courts and several mini courts for kids. It’s one of the largest of its kind in the country so is certainly worth checking out for anyone that enjoys playing tennis.

Water Sports

There are a variety of water sports available throughout the Golden Triangle. The coastal areas near Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago have water-skiing, parasailing and jet-skiing, while there is also kayaking, canoeing and windsurfing on the lakes in Quinta do Lago.

Explore Ria Formosa

The Ria Formosa Natural Park is one of the most naturally attractive landscapes in the entire Algarve. It stretches for many kilometres along the coast between Faro and Quinta do Lagos, with the resort being situated within the park.

Quinta do Lagos hosts cycle tours throughout many parts of the park, although it is just as enjoyable to explore by foot. The landscape and wildlife in Rai Formosa are diverse, featuring some of the rarest and most exotic birds in Portugal, while there are countless canals, lakes and islands within the park.

Getting to and around the Golden Triangle

Golden Triangle Travelling

The Golden Triangle is an area encompassing the town of Almancil and resort communities Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago, with each being closely located to each other. This means travelling to each location is much the same, being a short drive away from one another.

Faro airport is very close to the Golden Triangle, making it even easier to get to. All major airlines operate flights to Faro, so it’s easy enough to organise flights to the Golden Triangle throughout the year.

Once in Faro, the quickest way to get to any part of the Golden Triangle is by car, with Almancil being just 20 minutes away and the two resorts not much further. A private taxi is the best option for direct travel, however as those operating at the airport will cost more, try to book a private taxi prior to your arrival.

Public transport is another option, being the cheapest way to get to the Golden Triangle. It requires heading from Faro airport to the city of Faro, where you then get a bus to Almancil. If staying at either resort, simply jump on the bus or taxi, which won’t take long.

Vale do Lobo has its own private bus service for card holders, which makes travelling through the large resort simple, while Quinta do Lago offers private taxis, car rental and chauffeur services. Almancil has a good public transport network, with bus routes available to nearby towns and villages.

Praia de Vale do Lobo

The private beach for residents and guests at Vale do Lobo is rather narrow but has a good length to it. There are plenty of loungers and many bars and restaurants located nearby, so you can grab a few drinks or a bite to eat while out enjoying the sun.

Boat hires and other water sport activities are available on the beach should you want a break from lazing around, while the sea is very clean making it perfect for swimming during the summer.

Praia da Quinta do Lago

The private beach for residents and guests at Quinta do Lago, it is located near the Ria Formosa nature reserve, boasting pristine white sands stretching across the 3km of beachfront. Access is only available via the resort, maintaining the privacy that makes it so attractive.

The sea is calm, clean and perfect to swim in, while much of the surrounding landscape is unspoilt, offering a spectacular view of the coastline. It runs all the way along the coast up to the nearby Vale do Lobo.

Praia do Vale do Garrão

A private beach that stretches between Vale do Lobo and neighbouring resort Quina do Lago, Praia do Vale do Garrão features pristine golden sand, azure waters and ample facilities to cater for visitors of the beach.

There are many sun loungers situated across the beach, making it easy to grab a spot to soak up the sun and take in the incredible ocean view. The ocean itself is slightly cool but in a refreshing way that makes swimming and water sports enjoyable.

Weather in the Golden Triangle

Golden Triangle Weather

The Golden Triangle has fantastic weather like the rest of the Algarve, boasting a pleasant Mediterranean climate. This means long summers from May to September, with warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine daily.

Average temperatures are 24°C, although this considers the colder evenings, meaning daily temperatures can reach upwards of 30°C! The weather is perfect for sunbathing and is one of the big attractions for tourists and property investors looking to buy in the Golden Triangle.

Even when the days are exceedingly warm, a pleasant ocean breeze coming from the Atlantic ensures the weather is never unbearably hot. At the height of summer, there is an incredible 12 hours of sunshine each day, with almost no rain throughout the summer season.

The weather cools down by autumn and then again in winter, which starts in December and lasts to February. Even then, the weather in the Golden Triangle during winter isn’t the worst, remaining quite mild, with average temperatures of between 12°C and 15°C.

Rainfall is at its highest during winter, with December typically being the wettest month. Most of the annual rainfall occurs between December and February, with March ushering in a dry and warm spring.

Spring has very nice weather too, not getting too hot but remaining pleasantly warm and dry.
